Dr. John Paul Tutela began his studies at NYU. Enthralled by studying people he majored in Anthropology. “ I always loved to learn about different cultures and see the similarities that we all share, even across what seemed to be pretty diverse settings. In the end, the importance that is placed on family and friends is what unites us all.” Dr. Tutela then went to medical school in New Jersey, at what is now known as Rutgers University-New Jersey Medical School. “It was great to finally embark on what has become a third generation legacy in medicine, that was started by my grandfather Arthur C. Tutela MD, continued by my father Rocco R. Tutela MD and now carried on by my two older brothers Arthur, Rocco and myself.” Next year marks 75 years of the Tutela family delivering medicine in NY/NJ. Dr. John Paul Tutela went back to New York City to begin his Surgical Training at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in the West Village of Manhattan. When Saint Vincent’s closed it doors, Dr. Tutela completed his general surgery training, including his Chief Year, at Yale University. In the midst of his surgical training Dr. Tutela completed a Research Fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center’s world-renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery focusing on wound healing. Here he published many articles and won numerous awards for his scientific contribution. He then went to one of the country’s top Plastic Surgery programs at the University of Louisville. Here he completed vast training in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. A focused track in cosmetic surgery has given him expertise in advanced cosmetic and breast surgery as he is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
