Hand Surgery

The hand is one of the most complex structures in our body, and they are relied upon for almost everything we do.  Dr. Tutela diagnoses and treats certain disorders of the hand.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a type of Compression Neuropathy.  If you are experiencing numbness and tingling in your hands, you may be experiencing the compression of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel.  The carpal tunnel is found in your wrist and it is subject to swelling and pinching of the nerve that lays within it.

Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ranges from splints and rest, to steroid injection to a surgical release of the  Carpal Tunnel.  Dr. Tutela will examine you and decide what treatment is best.

TRIGGER FINGER

Trigger Finger, also known as stenosis tenosynovitis is a condition that one or more of your fingers gets stuck in a bent position and when straightens it “snaps” open.  In severe cases your finger may get stuck in a bent position.

Treatment of Trigger Finger typically includes Steroid injection or surgical release of the sheath that the tendon glides through.

A thorough exam by Dr. Tutela will determine the best treatment.

GANGLION CYST

A ganglion cyst is a benign (noncancerous) mass that is typically found near the joints of your wrist or fingers.  The theories behind the exact origin of the cyst are controversial.  The cysts are filled with a clear jelly like fluid.  They can be unsightly and painful.

Treatment can vary from observation, to steroid injection to surgical removal of the cyst.  Dr. Tutela will determine the best plan for you.
