Male Breast Reduction Gynecomastia

If you avoid taking your shirt off or hide under baggy sweatshirts to hide the extra tissue on your chest, or if you simply want a firmer and flatter chest with a more masculine contour, male breast reduction in the Northern New Jersey Area may be right for you.

WHAT IS MALE BREAST REDUCTION?

Male breast reduction surgery in the Northern New Jersey Area is for men affected by excessive tissue (gynecomastia) on one or both breasts. During male breast reduction, Dr. Tutela will remove excess breast tissue, and sculpt the remaining tissues to create a more masculine look.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MALE BREAST REDUCTION IN THE NORTHERN NEW JERSEY AREA?

If are over the age of 18, have undergone puberty, not considerably overweight, and are healthy, you may wish to consider male breast reduction.

If you are overweight, you are advised to first attempt to correct the problem through weight loss, as obesity can lead to the appearance of male breasts. Men who undergo male breast reduction should be at or near their ideal weight, or less than 30 pounds overweight. If you are overweight and have a significant amount of fatty tissue in the chest area, you may want to consider liposuction alone to correct the issue.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MALE BREAST REDUCTION?

You can expect a reduction in the extra tissue in your chest and a more masculine contour

HOW LONG IS RECOVERY FROM MALE BREAST REDUCTION?

Plan to spend several days recuperating from surgery before gradually returning to your normal activity level. Dr. Tutela will remove your stitches about a week after the procedure, when you return for a follow-up visit to check your recovery progress.  In some patients dissolvable sutures are used in which case suture removal will not be necessary.  Most patients can return to non strenuous work in 7-14 days, and can begin strenuous activity in 8 weeks.  Most patients find that the full results of male breast reduction in NYC are visible in about 6-8 weeks, as it takes some time for all of the swelling to resolve.  The scar will continue to fade for up to 2 years.

You can expect to feel some discomfort or tenderness in the chest area. Any pain you feel will be controlled with oral pain medicine and/or a muscle relaxer. Common side effects include bruising, swelling, and temporary numbness caused by the disruption of nerve connections. These side effects can be expected whether you undergo excision-only breast reduction or procedures involving liposuction. Most of these side effects should subside within a week or two, although some degree of swelling or numbness may last up to six months.
